What The Research Shows
Evidence-Based Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy proven effective for trauma and PTSD. It uses guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation to help the brain reprocess distressing memories, reducing their emotional intensity. Research shows EMDR can lead to faster symptom reduction than traditional talk therapy, with multiple randomized controlled trials demonstrating significant decreases in PTSD symptoms and improved overall functioning (Shapiro, 2017; Watts et al., 2013).
EMDR has been shown in randomized controlled trials to lead to dramatic reductions in PTSD. In several studies of single-trauma survivors, 84-90% no longer met diagnostic criteria for PTSD after just three 90-minute EMDR sessions. PMC+1
Also, more broadly, after eight EMDR sessions, about 60% of participants in certain adult studies no longer qualified for a PTSD diagnosis, with benefits maintained at follow-up. Wiley Online Library

For years I felt stuck on a specific memory from my past. It was like no matter what I did, it held me back, keeping me from feeling safe enough to express all of my love and to fully live my life. After just a couple of EMDR sessions, something shifted. That memory no longer has the same power over me. I feel more confident, more free, and so much less afraid. For the first time in a long time, I can show up as myself, with openness, love, and hope for the future.
